April 20. After four days of warm, wet weather we finally got a freeze last night, so Scott and I jumped at the chance to get back out on the crust. This time we heaed to the Placer River Valley. Althouth the terrain here is very flat, there are two impressive glaciers to see.

Thursday April 15. Tim Kelley and Tim Miller invited me to join them for a crust ski up Center Creek, near Johnson Pass. It was a chance I couldn’t pass up, so I skipped work and grabbed the boards. We skied for about 4 hours in some of the best crust skiing terrain you will find anywhere.

At 6 am on Saturday morning, Linda and I, and 700 other skiers, boarded the Alaska Railroad for the annual Ski Train. The train ride was a three hour trip to a place called Grandview. Grandview isn’t town - there is nothing there. It is just a remote spot in the middle of the Alaskan mountains that happens to have unreal skiing. Once in Grandview, everyone gets off the train, and skis all day.

I have been writing a new column on FasterSkier.com about my search for a new home. Chances are, if you are reading this blog, you already know where I ended up. But it was a fun and enlightening journey. You can read the whole The Search For XC Town USA series on FasterSkier.com.
