Figures, the sunniest day of the summer, and we end up in the one place that was socked in with clouds!

Bastien on Center Ridge
I'm amazed that there isn't a trail to get up there. It is so close to the highway and so beautiful.

Soaking up the sun
The pass we went through is the lowpoint on the ridgeline in this picture, above Ian's left shoulder. Its not an easy walk-over. When we attempted this trip last August, we had to turn back because the ridge was out of reach - there was a cliff between

Up and over!
Bastien scrambles from the top of the cornice to the pass. This is where we were turned around last year, and it was a relief to make it to other side. We were very glad we had ice axes to help with the ascent. We also had rope and crampons, but didn't

Time for a swim!

Bushwhack Fest 2008!
The slope down from Center Creek Pass is extremely steep, with lots of cliffs. We followed flagging for a proposed trail, which helped us avoid the cliffs, but also meant LOTS of switchbacks, which at least doubled our 'schwacking distance. The 2000' de

Spencer Lake
Finally at the bottom of the the descent, we decided to extend our schwackfest by another mile so that we could get to the lake. It sucked, but the glacial lake was the highlight of the trip.
